Privacy notice
How YSI handles your personal data.
The Yari Sport Initiative ("YSI", "we") collects personal data when you register or contact us. We handle it in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and related regulations.
What we collect
- Registration details: name, phone number, email, date of birth, gender (athletes), state and local government area, sport, and category-specific details such as team name or coaching qualification.
- For athletes under 18: a parent or guardian's name, phone number and relationship, and a record of their consent with the date it was given.
- An optional profile photo (athletes only).
- Messages you send through the contact form.
Why we collect it
- To run trials, tournaments and development programmes, and to contact you about them.
- To keep a central, accurate list of registered participants for YSI and its state coordinators.
- To produce summary reports (for example, registrations by state or sport) that do not identify individuals.
Our lawful basis is your consent, and for under-18s the consent of a parent or guardian.
Children
We do not publish the contact details, address or date of birth of any athlete. Athlete and success-story profiles are published only with consent, and for under-18s only with a parent or guardian's consent. Photos and videos of minors are published only with that consent.
The Talent Wall
If you submit a video, we publish only the video link, your sport, state and name, and a description you wrote, and only after YSI approves it and you (or a parent or guardian, if you are under 18) have agreed. For anyone under 18 we show first name only. Your phone number, email, date of birth and address are never published. Videos are hosted by the platform you linked to (for example YouTube), which has its own privacy rules. Ask us at any time and we will remove your entry from the wall.
Who can see your data
Only authorised YSI administrators and, for their own state, YSI state coordinators. Coordinators do not see a minor's home address, and the files they download hide minors' contact details. We do not sell personal data. We may share it with a partner organisation only where needed for an event you chose to enter, or where the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep registration data while you remain active with YSI, and delete or anonymise it when it is no longer needed for the purposes above or when you ask us to, unless the law requires us to keep it.
Your rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete your data, withdraw consent, or object to certain uses. A parent or guardian may do this for a child. Contact us at ambinji06@gmail.com and quote your registration number. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Security
We store data on protected servers, limit staff access by role, and record administrator activity. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your registration number private.
Changes
We may update this notice and will post the new version on this page.
